Finding Peace with Trump (free)

This is a contemplative practice to consider the conflict that resides in our inner being and how it is projected through the lens of Donald Trump.

The intention of this practice is to bring more peace, settledness, and calm into an election season that is filled with dysregulation.

This is a space to think about what we can do for ourselves, our communities, and loved ones.

This is a space to examine how to step more fully into your power, truth, and integrity.

You’ll be invited to explore uncomfortable edges in yourself, your thoughts, and your emotions.

And you’ll have an opportunity to share, be seen, and witness others as we all grapple with questions of responsibility, love, compassion, and complicity.

THIS IS A FREE EVENT.

What’s going to happen

After gathering, I’ll offer a brief introduction to what’s going to happen and then we’ll begin.

In this practice, I will be reading real quotes from Donald Trump. And then I’ll offer what Byron Katie calls “turnarounds” in which you’ll be invited to find other layers of truth within yourself.

The invitation is to notice your body, thoughts, and emotions and allow all of it to be present in the complicated ways that it often is.

After the practice, we’ll move into a debrief depending on time.

I’ve offered this in the past and it was edgy, challenging, and ultimately, very liberating.

Why Donald Trump?

I like to do this practice with Donald Trump because he is a caricature, avatar, and teacher for so many parts of ourselves.

Trump embodies many of the aspects myself that I have worked hard to change.

He offers a pristine mirror for me to look at and consider how I am also holding some of these same qualities.

To prepare for this event

  • Be in a quiet space that will allow you to go inward without disruption

  • Schedule at least 30 minutes of alone time after the event. Emotions are likely to flare and it can be disorienting to yourself and those around you if you reenter without time to integrate and process.

  • Come with a journal or paper to write or draw on.

  • Have a stable internet connection.
