Take responsibility for your power
Take responsibility for your power. You’re the only one who can.
There will be systems and people who try to marginalize you. They will limit your choices and your access. They will tell you you’re not good enough.
But power exists within and without.
Yes, power is bestowed upon certain people at birth with gender, race, money, disability, and health.
But power is also developed through our experiences, curiosities, and communities.
We are given opportunities to develop our inner power, our worth, and our sense of belonging.
When we ignore the opportunities to understand ourselves, we end up solely relying and following the systems that far too often exist to protect a select few while creating massive harm and violence for everyone else.
When we rely on these systems for our power, our lives become very challenging.
Conflict, intimacy, deep connection, and joy are often far out of reach (why we hear money can’t buy happiness).
But when we embrace the journey to understand ourselves, our authenticity, and in that, our power, our lives become easier.
Relationships become more fulfilling. Pleasure more accessible.
But this journey has to be chosen.
Our personal power cannot be given to us in the ways that our culture bestows power based on race, gender, disability, age, etc.
It’s work we must do for ourselves. And when we do this for ourselves, it ripples out into our communities. And when our communities change, our systems can change.
